“Vanaf het balkon kijk ik uit op het parkje, waar ik ratten heb gezien. Ik ben niet bang voor ratten”. In het parkje wijst ze me de plek aan waar ze de ratten heeft gezien.
Ze vertelt dat een rat grijs is en met haar handen geeft ze aan hoe groot de ratten zijn die ze gezien heeft.

“Ik heb hier nog nooit een rat gezien. Ik heb hier alleen last van vogels. Maar ik ben heel bang voor ratten, ik ben bang voor alle insecten”.

De bewoonster en haar broer, die boven haar woont, wijzen me plekken op straat aan waar ze ratten hebben gezien: bij de boom, waar eten gestrooid wordt (ik maak een foto van een korst brood hier vlakbij op straat.) Ze wijst met haar hand in de richting. En haar broer wijst naar het rooster van de regenput; daar zag hij een rat verdwijnen.
Hij vertelt dat een rat bruin is, de kleur van zijn overhemd.

“Eergisteren heb ik in m’n achtertuin nog een rat gezien. ’s Zomers zie ik ze vooral ’s avonds”.
Merel heeft hier, in de transvaalstraat, nog nooit een rat gezien en ze is ook niet bang voor ratten. Met haar handen geeft ze aan hoe groot een rat is.
